“Your body is in your mind,” a phrase proposed by our Masters level Health Educator, Lea, will be the subject of several pages for purposes of exploration and your ah-ha moments. When it comes to positive change, Lea acknowledged several important questions to ask, which when answers can begin to surface, will provide evidence to the validity of “your body is in your mind.”
Prepare to explore these questions and others. What keeps us stuck or returns us to old irritating eating habits even after a real lifestyle make-over? What is it I’m thinking or am I not thinking at all? What’s in my mind that I don’t even know is there?
We won’t be asking you to dig back through the past! Definitely not! We’ll look at ways of reducing that anxiety not enhancing it!
Instead, we’ll explore the power of the mind, how it can trick us AND how it can empower us.
We’ll identify the practical uses of mindfulness – relaxation – correct thinking – movement – tapping into lasting desire for positive change, all that allows you to reach your health goals, to remake yourself, finding right solutions just for you today, tomorrow, over the next 3 months and next year.

Set goals that relate to non-food activities and events that can bring you pleasure. An example could be taking your child to the park an extra day that week, or your dog to the dog park. Walk in the cool morning air, sit in quiet reflection. Explore special interests, such as genealogy search of your family tree, scrapbooking, community service.
If you can, try to set goals that do not include the number of pounds you want to loose in a week. Save the number on the scale for a surprise. Instead, set goals that relate to behavior. Discover what you will do for fun and how you might reward yourself with zero calorie indulgences for sticking to your plan for a week, for a second week and more. These are important steps during the first four to six weeks of your program. We won’t say too much about exercise for these first few weeks, but keep in mind, this will be the point of discussion on later pages.
